Brand Style Sheets
Defining a brands style, color, look/feel and logo.
I have, for a while now, loved the process of building brand styles. I have also had this shitty little mental obstacle of thinking that it is this long, meticulous, slow process that is developed by geniuses over several years and sometimes decades.
Well, I call bullshit.
I'm sure some of the best brands are built that way. But that type of thinking can really corner you into thinking that brand design and development is some holy grail that you have no business being a part of (reminder for a future post…..imposter syndrome). But in the last 8 or so days, I have put together two brand style sheets. Sure they are not perfect, they aren't going to change the world and you will most likely never hear of them. But I have learned that I love doing this and that it can be done quickly if it needs to be done quickly. As a designer, I am very familiar with the holy trinity of delivery: Quality, Speed, Quantity. You can only pick two.
First, a brand called 411, thats really all I can say:
It's sort of the bare minimum, but you can start building a website off of these styles and achieve brand cohesiveness/recognition just from this little start. I would highly recommend some flexibility and willingness for these guidelines to grow along side your brand/site.
Lastly, I had a lot of fun doing this same exercise for 289 days. The whole concept was based off my daughters birthday, so she was a big motivation for the colors. My recent obsession with NASA patches inspired the logo and I'm still working on the rest. I'm currently implementing all these styles into the site. But I'm happy with how these quick little "brand in a day" style sheets are going. It's a fun little design practice.
